Thank you to everyone that turned up today for the inaugural walk along the new Sheffield Greenway, it was a great turnout, and especially to everyone who bought the book (I should have brought a bigger rucksack). The next outing is on 24 November (when I will have more for those who missed out in the scrum), following the first part of the Rotherham Loop from Meadowhall. I’ve just added 2 more, part of the Northern Loop on 19 January and the start of the Western Loop on 1 March. The Eastern Loop from Darnall to Frecheville is already in for 10 May. We should finish the whole 111 miles by 2020!!
Time is running out for the new Shorter Walks programme. Only 10 walks from 4 contributors have so far been added. If we can’t at least double this number by the meeting on 5 December, the committee will have no choice but to abandon the project, thus ending a proud ten-year tradition of providing shorter walks for members and the public. Any member of the Ramblers is eligible to lead a walk. Submissions can be made on the website (see attachment) or send the details to firstname.lastname@example.org.

The torch lit night walk for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity taking place in Ecclesall Woods on Saturday 28 September still require a few volunteer marshalls and an experienced back marker. If anyone is willing to help please contact the charity office on 0114 226 5370. www.wphcc.org.uk/light. It’s a very colourful event with lots of entertainment, food, drink, emotion and Jessica Ennis-Hill as well. Last year I led over 500 people.
Last year, Light the Night, the torch lit night walk round Ecclesall Woods raised over £25,000 for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity. This year’s walk takes place on Saturday 28 September from 6.30pm. See the link below for details.

A council-run project called Walk About Hillsborough require someone to lead a walk from Dungworth (the farm where Our Cow Molly ice cream is made) to Hillsborough on Friday 16 August, 1.45pm to 4pm. Someone from the project will be present, but Hannah Isherwood, who devised the route, is unavailable and I am on holiday.
They usually meet the group at Hillsborough Interchange and travel out by bus. If anyone is free that afternoon and can help, please email email@example.com for the details.
