For those of you who are intending to come on my walk, I am sorry but I forgot to write in the information that I shall be boarding the 9.20 am 272 bus at the bus stop near to Banner Cross on Ecclesall Road. Also, as you already know, there is a lot of mud and surface water out in the Peak District, especially on the lower ground, so it would be useful to have poles and gaiters with you, if you do use these. Deena
On Tuesday 30th January, from 7.30 – 10.00 pm, ITV are screening a documentary called Britain’s 100 Top Walks, and I know that Stanage will be the focus of one of the walks, and that Bill Gordon (who gave us such a brilliant talk at our AGM) will feature in it as well. Deena
I have edited the details of my walk to show that we are now catching the 8.20 272 bus to Fox House, and not the 9.20 bus, as first written. I shall be boarding the bus at Ecclesall Road stop, near Banner Cross shops. I have changed to earlier time as we shall have shorter daylight hours, having put our clocks back the night before. It is a linear walk, with bus back from Baslow. I hope that some of you are able to come. Thanks. Deena
Dear Ramblers, Just wanted to remind you about our fund-raisng CEILIDH for WaterAid which is taking place this Saturday. All the details are in the post I wrote on 4th March, so please scroll down and you will find more information.
I do hope that some of you can come along. You can bring your own alcohol.
You will be able to buy tickets on the door, so turn up from 7.30 when doors open. Music will start at about 8.
Please spread the word amongst other friends/family/walking companions. Thanks
Helo Judy, great to read that you are home. I did leave a phone message, just in case you had come home during week. Will phone at weekend to arrange a visit.
Do hope you are fully recovered now. Very best wishes, Deena
The Sheffield WaterAid Supporters group invite you to a fund-raising CEILIDH on Saturday March 25th at St. Andrews Church Hall, St. Andrews Road, Nether Edge,
S11 9AL. The hall is not far from Psalter Lane and there is free parking on local quiet roads. We have booked a great band DROP OF A HAT with an excellent caller.
Entry costs £8 with concession price of £6 for people on benefits/ low income, or students. Free entry for children up to age 12.
YOU CAN BRING YOUR OWN ALCOHOL, but we will be selling hot and cold soft drinks and delicious home-baked cakes at very reasonable prices.
There will be a raffle. All money raised will be sent to WaterAid to support their ongoing 3 year project to bring safe drinking water and sanitation to rural areas of Madagascar. There will be large tables around the perimeter of the hall so if you prefer not to dance too much you can sit and enjoy listening to the live music and watching the dancing .
You can email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org for further information and I would be happy to send you a flier to circulate to friends or family members who you think might be interested in coming. I can bring tickets out on future Sunday walks, too.
Hello everyone who reads the blog,
Just thought I had better write that although I have described my walk as “moderate” there are a few fairly steep (but not long) ascents and one quite steep and rather exposed descent into Coombs Dale.
Also, although we are going over Longstone Moor again, which is what we did on John’s walk, led by David, we shall only be repeating a short section of that route as my walk approaches the moor from the north west and not the north east.
Thanks to Leaders of recent walks which have all been very enjoyable –
including yours, John. We were sorry that you could not be out walking with us. Hope you recover from your injury soon.
Best wishes to all. Deena
If I don’t come into the Interchange on Sunday to catch the 9.33 no. 65 bus which we are using to get to Grindleford, then I shall be getting on the bus at the Ecclesall Road/Banner Cross stop at 9.43 approx and hope that some of you will be able to come, although I know that several of you are away or have other commitments.
The busses back from Hathersage are at either 16.19 or 17.19.
Don’t forget to put clocks back on Saturday night. Deena
