Join us on a Coach Ramble!

The next Sheffield Ramblers Coach Ramble is on Saturday 12th September. We will be visiting Settle from where there will be two led walks

Everyone is welcome on our coach rambles and if you have not walked with our groups before this is a good opportunity to come along and try out one of our walks. It is also possible to come along and walk or explore the area independently.

As this is a coach ramble places are limited and must be booked. The coach will depart from Arundel Gate at the junction with Howard Road at 08:00. The coach will leave Settle at 18:00 and return to Sheffield at approximately 20:00.

Parking Restrictions at Castleton and Mam Tor

Derbyshire County Council have introduced comprehensive restrictions on parking in and around Castleton - please bear these in mind if you are planning a walk in the area. See here for the full details:

There are numerous changes to bus timetables, applicable from 26th April 2025. Too many to list here, but here's a link :

Peak District Bus Services

Derbyshire Council has announced changes to services after the operator Hulleys of Baslow said that it would cease trading on Wednesday 26th March

The DCC have managed to find alternatives to take over the services as you can see below and most will run as previously but do check beforehand and be prepared for differently coloured/badged buses turning up at the bus stop.

The 271/272 services previously operated by Hulleys have been taken over by the High Peak bus company.

The 257 service Sheffield - Bamford - Bakewell running Monday -Saturday is now be operated by Andrews of Tideswell. Also, South Pennine Community Transport has taken over the 257 Sunday & BH service that runs between Sheffield Int, Ladybower, Fairholmes and Bamford Station. Fare is the national £3 cap.

Rights of Way – Update on Lost Paths work in Sheffield

The Government recently announced it would implement a deadline of 2031 to register claims, despite announcing in 2022 that it wanted to remove the deadline. After that date we will no longer be able to claim rights of way based on historic evidence, and any paths not on the Council’s definitive map could be at risk of being lost forever.

Terry Howard has been leading work in our area and has identified various lost paths in Bradfield and elsewhere. Richard Mills has been apponted as a volunteer 'Don't Lose your Way' researcher and will be meeting with him and Christine Whittaker who has been assisting to consider putting in further applications.

Richard would welcome comments from members on the following:

Are you aware of any lost paths or other work we should consider?
As far as we are aware no other walking groups in Sheffield are doing this work, but would it be useful to raise its profile locally?

Coach Rambles

We have 3 or 4 day-long coach trips each year so that we can explore further afield.

All are welcome to come on our coach trips and it is particularly good to welcome members who do not walk regularly with our walking groups. Non walkers can spend time exploring the area and there is plenty of scope for short walks for those who do not want to join one of the led groups.

Dates for 2026

Saturday September 12th – Settle

There will be a choice of a long or short walk (12 or 6-7 miles), so options for different levels of fitness and stamina.
