The Pick up for the coach ramble has now changed to Paternoster Row (near the Showroom) because of the Great Yorkshire Run.
There will be an A and a B walk .
A walk -12 miles
Leaders – David Hogg and Liz Savage
The route goes from Malham via Janet’s Foss and ascends Gordale Beck. There is a steepish ascent here and there is an option to ascend via Gordale Scar though David and I were not able to do this on the recce as there was too much water. We then go to Malham Tarn via Great Close Hill. After walking round the tarn we cross some moorlands with lots of Shake Holes and return to Malham via the limestone pavements and Cove. The walk takes in the areas key iconic features and hopefully on the day we will get some views without getting our feet too wet!
B walk -9 miles
Leaders – Cath and Malcolm Mackay
Our route takes in most of the features for which the area is famous starting with the dramatic cliff of Malham Cove where we will climb on a long series of firm well made steps – slowly! The rewards are twofold; there is a magnificent view in good weather and the limestone pavement is one of the Dales finest. We do not need to cross this , which some people may find too difficult, but will see it clearly at close quarters. Then comes the dry valley which is a bit rocky underfoot but should not present any real problem except perhaps for a little extra care. If it is wet. This too looks really dramatic from the top. Then it is a gentle grassy walk to Malham Tarn, the Dales largest natural lake. We continue on good, easy going tracks through typical limestone grassland, past the site of the RomanFort and down the fields back to the valley. After about a mile of lane walking we call at Janet’s Foss and follow the stream back to Malham Village.
In Malham village there are pubs serving food and cafés which should still be open when we get back from our walks.
There are still a few places remaining on the coach. Please ring me 07711353310 if you would like to join us.
