Walk to Temple Newsam – Wedneday 27th August

When we planned this walk rail travel to Leeds was free – as we are leaving Sheffield on the 9.06 train the return fare to Woodlesford with a railcard is now £8.50 (£12.90 without a railcard). The return fare from Chapeltown is £8.25.

It might be worth buying a return ticket to Leeds for £8.60 (railcard) which gives the option of returning from Temple Newsam by bus to Leeds if the weather is bad.

We will have an extended afternoon tea-break at Temple Newsam so that there is an opportunity to explore some of the estate and gardens (and café?).

We expect to catch the 17.41 return train from Woodlesford to Sheffield arriving in Sheffield at 18.30.

There are no drop-off points before Temple Newsam, but it is possible to return from Temple Newsam to Leeds on the 15.30 or 16.30 bus rather than walking the 3 miles back to Woodlesford station (this would involve a short walk from the bus stop to Leeds railway station). Buy a return ticket to Leeds (£8.60) if you think you might take this option.

We will pass a vineyard on the return journey to Woodlesford station – it is unlikely that we will have time to visit the vineyard before it closes but the growing vines are visible from the lane.
