On April 27th there will be a Spirit of Kinder Day celebration at New Mills Town Hall. It will feature talks from Keith Warrender, publisher of The Battle for Kinder Scout, Jon Stewart, manager of the National Trust’s Peak District estate (which includes Kinder Scout) and Ramblers President Kate Ashbrook. For more information see Spirit of Kinder Day on the Ramblers web site.

I propose to lead a walk there but we need to arrive by 2p.m. so it will mean an early start. The most direct route from Edale station via Jacob’s Ladder, Bowden Bridge, Hayfield and the Sett Valley Trail is about 10 miles so we will need to take the 8:14 train that gets to Edale at 8:47. I assume I will get some takers; the weather can’t be as bad as last year.

Travel back will be by train from New Mills. The cheapest option is a Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket which must be bought at Sheffield station or a SYPTE Travel Centre in Sheffield. Tickets cost £11.10 each for adults and £5.55 for senior citizens (aged 60 or over; proof of age may be required). See http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/transport_roads/public_transport/tickets_passes/rover_tickets/default.asp
If you buy a ticket on the train the prices are: £11.80 full price (£11.60 from Dore), £7.65 from Dore with a senior railcard.

I hope you can make it
